- In 2006, Petrobrás Química (Petroquisa) and Companhia Integrada Têxtil do Nordeste (Citene) set up two companies to implement two structuring projects in the Suape Industrial Port Complex, in Pernambuco. Thus were born Companhia Petroquímica de Pernambuco (PetroquímicaSuape), on April 11, 2006, and Companhia Integrada Têxtil de Pernambuco (Citepe), on July 14 of the same year.
- On February 28, 2007, the installation of the Suape Petrochemical Complex began, made up of the industries Petroquímica Suape, for the production of terephthalic acid (PTA), and CITEPE, for the production of polymers and textile filaments (POY, DTI and FDY) .
- In September 2008, a factory for the production of PET resin was added to the enterprise, with a nominal capacity of producing 450 thousand tons per year. After this integration, the complex now has three industrial units, namely PTA Production, PET Resin Production and Polyester Filament Production. Thus, the largest integrated polyester complex in Latin America was born.
- In January 2009, the two projects (petrochemical and textile) were unified under a single administration, maintaining the legal characteristics of the two companies.
- The pre-operation of the polyester filament unit (DTY) begins.
- The year 2011 marks the beginning of the textile plant's operations. In the same year, the first sale of textured filament (DTY) is carried out. In 2012, production of warp yarn begins.
- In March 2013, the purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant started up.
- In April 2014, the operation of the first line of the PET resin unit begins.
- In August 2015, the operation of the second line of the PET resin unit began. It is also the year of important achievements, such as the approval of PET resin with important world consumers. It was in this year that the petrochemical complex also obtained ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications.
- The year 2016 was marked by successive sales records of PET resin for the Brazilian market. It was also in this year that the process of negotiating the full sale of the assets of PetroquímicaSuape and Citepe to the Mexican group Alpek, one of the world's largest producers of polyester, began.
- On February 7, 2018, the Administrative Court of the Economic Defense Council (CADE) approved the sale of Petroquímica and Citepe to Alpek Polyester. The conclusion of this process marked the beginning of a new era for the two companies from Pernambuco that, on May 2, 2018, passed into the control of the Mexican company. With the integration of PQS into the business, Alpek became the largest integrated producer of PET and PTA in South America.
